Physically Integrated Dance Master Class

AXIS Dance Company will introduce this exciting dance form for people with and without physical disabilities. Using creative movement, improvisation and modern dance techniques we will explore solo, duet and ensemble material. *** This class is appropriate for adults and/or teens with and without disabilities with some level of dance or movement experience.
Choreographic Master Class
Wednesday, Sep 12th | 12:45pm–2:15pm
Led by Artistic Director Marc Brew, AXIS Dance Company will introduce choreographic tools for disabled and non-disabled dancers. Participants will explore how to adapt, or translate choreography to suit each individual body. Tasks introduced will give insight into some of the techniques and creative tools involved in the creation of AXIS repertory, focusing on Brew’s athletic and tactile work, Radical Impact (2017). Radical Impact will be featured in AXIS’ HCC performances Sep 14-15. *** This class is appropriate for adults and/or teens with and without disabilities with dance experience.
Redefining Dance & Disability- Lecture/Demonstration

This presentation includes an intimate conversation with AXIS Artistic Director Marc Brew and AXIS dancers. Dancers will share a short live performance featuring excerpts of AXIS’ current touring repertory. An introduction to the company’s history follows, after which Mr. Brew and the dancers share their personal dance and disability stories. AXIS closes the presentation with a question and answer exchange. ***The workshop is open to all.
Tools for Structured Improvisation

AXIS Dance Company will lead participants through improvisation scores and structured movement exploration to develop partnering and listening skills in a trusting and safe environment. The emphasis of this class will be on investigation, exploration and inclusive language. *** This workshop is open to all adults and/or teens with and without physical disabilities who have any level of dance experience.
