PSA with John Cena Filmed in Ybor City Nominated for Emmy
TAMPA, Fla. (July 18, 2017)—Professional wrestler, actor and now Emmy winner? John Cena may have another title to add to his resume.
The Ad Council’s We are America featuring the World Wrestling Entertainment superstar has been nominated for a Primetime Emmy in the category for Outstanding Commercial. It’s part of the Love Has No Labels campaign.
The Public Service Announcement (PSA) was filmed last year in Ybor City. Producers picked Ybor because of the architecture and cultural diversity.
“This was a difficult shoot with tons of moving parts,” said Tyler Martinolich, Director of Operations for Film Tampa Bay. “It couldn’t have happened without the support of the Tampa Police Department, the Ybor City Development Corporation and the City of Tampa. Thanks for helping make Tampa a great place to film.”
The PSA promotes the importance of acceptance of all communities, regardless of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age and ability. In the ad, Cena walks down 7th Avenue telling us what patriotism really means.
“Ybor City has such a diverse neighborhood, culture and naturally unique backdrop that makes the location perfect for filming,” said Courtney Orr, Manager of the Ybor City Development Corporation. “We’re very proud to be a part of an Emmy-nominated piece.”
The winner will be announced September 16 at the Creative Arts Emmys on FXX.
